The Christmas season brings about a refreshing and welcoming change to many of our lives each year. We all know that famous phrase, ‘tis the season to show goodwill toward man’. It’s also a good time to spotlight those making a positive difference in our community. Eunice Nuekie Cofie, “often noted as the modern-day Madame C.J. Walker,” is one of those beautiful people making a positive impact on the lives of others.
Eunice is not only making great strides in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry, she is leaving her mark across the globe. She is the founder and Chief Cosmetic Chemist of Nuekie, an ethnic dermatology company. She is shining light on a group whose unique skin care needs has often been ignored by the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry.
One could say that Eunice was destined to have a career in the skin care industry. I am certainly one who believes that God gives us passion for our pain. Eunice’s life is definitely a testament to this. From an early age she was taunted about her dark skin complexion. As would be expected, the constant teasing and bullying damaged her self-esteem.
My saving grace was my father’s encouragement for me to pursue an understanding of science which shifted my focus. In the first grade, my father entered me into my first school science fair. My father would spend countless hours teaching me how to develop my science fair project. The hard work that I put into my project paid off when I won first place in the school science fair. From that moment, I began to gain confidence in myself. What I understood from that experience was that I may not have been viewed as the prettiest girl in the room but I knew that I could be the smartest girl in the room. Science had become my oasis and my strength. It became my love.
Eunice was introduced to the world of cosmetic science while an undergraduate at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. As a result of a chance lab exercise in her organic chemistry class where she had the opportunity to create lotions and hair relaxers, she became fascinated with the cosmetic industry. Through further study, she learned that her dark skin was the result of a substance called melanin produced in skin cells. She stated that God used that experience to heal her of the pain from her past.
Nueke, Inc was birthed to provide quality dermatological products for the unique structure and function of ethnic skin and hair. Nueke is built upon this foundational scripture: “From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth.” – Psalm 50:2.
Eunice is definitely a trailblazer. She is a former Miss Black Florida USA, who is deeply committed to social causes around the world. In recent years, she has spent her summers working in village communities in Ghana, West Africa implementing the Save a Million Lives HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention Program. At home in the states, she contributes greatly to our younger generation by inspiring them to live healthy lifestyles.
As one of the world’s up and coming inspiring leaders, Eunice Cofie is also the President of Enspiring Concepts, LLC, a life-empowerment firm which seeks to inspire others to be their very best and to follow their destiny. The firm offers programs to teach others how to maximize their potential. She is the Founder and Executive Producer of Moving Closer to My Dreams: A Young Women’s Empowerment Conference, an annual event designed to empower young professional women to realize their dreams.
Eunice was recently honored by the World Economic Forum as a 2012 Young Global Leader. She is featured in the 2012 Tallahassee Community College Cherry Alexander African-American Calendar. Recently, Eunice was recognized by the Governor of Florida and the Florida Commission on the Status of Women with the prestigious Florida Achievement Award for her commitment to improving the lives of women and families in her community. Eunice was named by the Tallahassee Democrat newspaper as one of the “25 Women You Need to Know in Tallahassee”.
Eunice is taking the world by storm and creating a lasting legacy of good will toward man. Her line of dermatological products will be in stores nationwide soon. You can be the first to try a sample of her products by signing up here.
“I believe if God could describe Himself as being perfect in beauty then what more would our Creator regard about us. So, it is my life’s mission not only to provide great products but to inspire women and men of color to discover that they are perfect in beauty. So, go forth in your perfect beauty and shine like God!”
What a message! Eunice, continue to shine forth in your beauty.
