“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17
Sometimes we go through life looking for a divine message that we are on the right path. We proceed as if we feel GOD is going to descend from the heavens himself to tell us that, “Yes, that is the right decision.” Recently, I have stopped to think that maybe GOD is already sending me messages. Just maybe he is guiding my steps, and I just wasn’t aware.
This thought came about when I stopped living my life as a blur and started to look for messages that the LORD could be sending to me. As I have done this I have more often stopped to think, what could GOD be trying to tell me?
There is a song in the movie, ‘The Color Purple’ (one of my favorite movies), that says “GOD is trying to tell you something.” Okay, maybe HE is….but how do you actually SEE what he is trying to tell you?
Here are some simple steps to communicate with God so that YOU can clearly hear His voice:
- Spend time with HIM – Start each day in conversation with the LORD. Before you even put your feet on the floor, take time to be thankful for the day before, and discuss with HIM your ideas and questions for the coming day.
- Believe in HIS promise – As soon as you finish your conversation with the LORD believe in his promise to provide whatever answer it is you need.
- Receive the blessing – While you go about your day start to look for people and things that support the answer you were seeking GOD for.
- Be Thankful – Each time GOD sends you the answer you were seeking take time to honor HIM for blessing you.
What I am really trying to say here? That there are no accidents. Situations and circumstances don’t just occur in your life randomly. The more you start to ask GOD for what you need, the more you can expect that the people you are meeting and the things you are learning are part of GOD’s plan for delivering what you have asked for.
Sometimes we treat life and the people in it as if it were one big interruption. I challenge you to move forward in a different light; I challenge you to look at each person you meet and ask yourself the following: Is this person in my life to be a blessing, or is this person in my life so that I can be a blessing to them? Either way once you have asked yourself the question, allow GOD the opportunity to speak to your heart, and then follow what he says.
Recently I reached out to one of the friends in my social network to see if she was attending a women’s conference I will be hosting. She indicated she was interested and that she would purchase her ticket when she received her paycheck because she just returned to work. I could have easily left it at that, but I asked myself the same question: “Is this person in my life to be a blessing, or is this person in my life so that I can be a blessing to them?” Within the next 30 seconds the spirit said to me, “Buy her a ticket.” I did. The same day I was blessed with 3 new clients and a speaking engagement! There are rewards to being obedient!
In closing, as you move through your week I challenge you to not only continue to ask GOD for those things that we feel will bless us… but more importantly, when we ask, we MUST take time to LISTEN for the answer. It may be closer than you think!
